HISTORY: Ancient Greece and Egypt: Hippocrates, near 400 BC, recommended thyme for respiratory infections
PROPERTIES: Bronchoantispasmodic, expectorant, antibacterial, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antiviral, antifungal
Considered Uses
Respiratory: Symptoms of the upper respiratory tract like bronchitis and whooping cough (German Commission E approved), allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, sore throat, laryngitis, tonsillitis,
sore mouth, expectorant (helps you cough up mucus), cough
Ears: Fungal and bacterial infections of ear canals
Cardiovascular: May help reduce blood pressure (being studied)
Gastrointestinal: Thrush, upset stomach (gastritis), diarrhea, gas, parasitic worm infections, bad breath (halitosis), tooth decay (in some commercially prepared products like Listerine. Helps fight dental infection (reportedly eases dental pain as well)
Musculoskeletal: Rheumatoid arthritis
Neurologic: Dyspraxia (movement disorder) improves sleep
Skin: It may help treat skin disorders, baldness, and inflammation, promote wound healing (may help treat resistant strains of Staphylococcus, Enterococcus, E. coli, and Pseudomonas bacteria), and help fight fungal infections and acne.
Immunity: May help boost immunity
Cancer: This may help decrease breast and colon cancer growth.
Other: Bedwetting, diuretic, appetite stimulant, insecticide and repellant (including ticks)
