HISTORY: Lemongrass has been used in cooking and medicine for nearly 5,000 years.


PROPERTIES: Antifungal, astringent, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, antioxidant, analgesic

Considered Uses

Respiratory: Cough, cold symptoms


Cardiovascular: High blood pressure


Gastrointestinal: GI spasms, stomach ache, vomiting, abdominal pain, thrush, bloating, GERD, thrush, gingivitis, antiemetic


Genitourinary: Urinary tract infections


Cholesterol: May help lower cholesterol


Glucose: May help lower sugar


Musculoskeletal: Joint and muscle aches, inflammation


Skin: Skin infection


Immunity: Helps strengthen immunity


Neurologic: Seizures, headaches, neuralgia


Mental Health: Anxiety


Cancer: Possibly anticarcinogic


Other: Pain, fever reducer, fatigue, diuretic, dandruff, insecticide and repellant

SIDE EFFECTS: Possible irritation of the skin when used topically, lung inflammation (inhaled), increased bilirubin and amylase, renal toxicity, insect and tick repellant


CAUTION/CONTRAINDICTIONS: Phenobarbital, drugs metabolized by P450 3A4, CYP 450 1A1, phenobarbital

  • 1-3 tsp lemongrass steeped 5 min in 1 hot water - let cool, strain - 1-2 times daily
